Fifa Adopts New Red Card Rule for 2026 World Cup

Fifa has approved a modification to the disciplinary regulations applicable to the 2026 World Cup. From now on, any player covering their mouth while addressing an opponent or referee will be directly sent off by red card. This measure, nicknamed the 'Vinicius rule' in reference to incidents involving the Brazilian, aims to crack down on gestures considered insulting or aggressive.
