Marc Overmars, former striker for the Netherlands who participated in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, steps down from his position as sporting director of Royal Antwerp. Plagued by heart problems since 2022, the ex-Arsenal and Barcelona player states that his energy is exhausted and that continuing could risk grave consequences. His doctors warned him of the urgency to stop. Overmars was leaving the position after winning the Belgian title in 2023.
