Otamendi leaves Benfica for River Plate this summer
The 38-year-old Argentine defender will not extend his contract with the Portuguese club and will return to Argentina after the 2026 World Cup.

Nicolás Otamendi informed José Mourinho on Friday that he will not renew his contract with Benfica. The Argentine centre-back, tied until the end of June 2026, played his last match with the Eagles on Saturday against Estoril (3-1 victory). River Plate, the club of his heart, will welcome him after the summer transfer window. Otamendi, 2022 World Cup champion, has been defending Benfica since 2020.
