Raúl Asencio, defender for Real Madrid, was convicted on August 19 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Stopped in Gran Canaria on August 16, he registered 0.90 mg/l of expired alcohol, nearly four times Spain's legal limit. The court imposed a fine of 14,400 euros and an eight-month driving ban. Asencio, 23, trained at Real Madrid and a regular starter since the previous season, remains a key element of the Merengues' defense.
