Thaís Lima, the Franco-Portuguese goalkeeper who saves Brazil

Thaís Lima, Benfica goalkeeper born in Lisbon, crucially saved Brazil in the round of 16 against the USA on Wednesday, March 16th, during the FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup in Poland. After a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time, the 17-year-old goalkeeper parried Adams' penalty kick, leading Brazil to victory 5-4 in the shootout. Born to a Brazilian father and Angolan mother with Portuguese nationality, Lima chose to represent Brazil despite her youth career with Portugal's U-15 through U-19 teams. Already called up by coach Arthur Elias for the senior squad's friendlies against England and Italy in 2025, the goalkeeper now aims for the quarter-finals against Spain on Saturday at 1:30 PM.
